In 2017, the Detroit City Portal opened right above the original Sweet Home Mine portal on Mount Bross and not long after a significant pocket was discovered and named "Deano's Pocket" after mine geologist Dean Misantoni. Deano's pocket produced many amazing specimens and would be one of the largest pocklets discovered in the Detroit City Portal. This specimen is unique because it features a wide range of associated minerals - Rhodochrosite with pyrite and chalcopyrite sitting on top of a sphalerite/tetrahedrite matrix is a sulfide lovers dream! The large rhodo rhomb is 2cm on edge and emanates a rich red color, the top edge of the crystal does have a bit of chatter but maintains a nice edge regardless. The smaller rhodo (1cm) on the bottom of the specimen is a nice touch as well. There are so many amazing things going on it's hard to know where to start... The color is a beautiful shade of purple but what really blows my mind... the majority of the color is composed of thousands(?) of purple speckles on a mostly clear crystal. The overall shape reminds me of a pixelated cube that is missing pixels where the dissolution occured on the edges. Speaking of dissolution... there are dual carthage corners with the "snow cone or spire" effect on the backside of the specimen. Plus, the entire backside of the former cube is deeply etched leaving behind delicate "spikes" - So unique! I also need to point out that there is very nice zoning in the carthage corners and if you look into the crystal from the right angle you can see a large inclusion of sphalerite or petroleum(?) within. I did my best to capture as many of these amazing features as possible in the video but if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out!

We photographed the specimen while back lit. I count at least 20 smaller fluorite crystals spread across the rest of the specimen that are similarly translucent with faint purple zoning.
