This specimen was mined many years ago during the initial finds in and around the Erongo region - In my opinion the early finds are the most aesthetic. The feldspar is very well formed and creates a lovely base for the schorl and aquamarine to contrast against. Several robust schorl crystals and a sprinkling of smaller crystals pop off the entire feldspar surface. Both of the aquamarine crystals (2.5cm and 5cm) rise out of schorl clusters with the larger of the two aquas sporting a penetrating schorl that interrupted the aquas horizontal growth. In 2017, the Detroit City Portal opened right above the original Sweet Home Mine portal on Mount Bross and not long after a significant pocket was discovered and named "Deano's Pocket" after mine geologist Dean Misantoni. Deano's pocket produced many amazing specimens and would be one of the largest pocklets discovered in the Detroit City Portal. This specimen is unique because it features a wide range of associated minerals - Rhodochrosite with pyrite and chalcopyrite sitting on top of a sphalerite/tetrahedrite matrix is a sulfide lovers dream! The large rhodo rhomb is 2cm on edge and emanates a rich red color, the top edge of the crystal does have a bit of chatter but maintains a nice edge regardless. The smaller rhodo (1cm) on the bottom of the specimen is a nice touch as well. There are so many amazing things going on it's hard to know where to start... The color is a beautiful shade of purple but what really blows my mind... the majority of the color is composed of thousands(?) of purple speckles on a mostly clear crystal. The overall shape reminds me of a pixelated cube that is missing pixels where the dissolution occured on the edges. Speaking of dissolution... there are dual carthage corners with the "snow cone or spire" effect on the backside of the specimen. Plus, the entire backside of the former cube is deeply etched leaving behind delicate "spikes" - So unique! I also need to point out that there is very nice zoning in the carthage corners and if you look into the crystal from the right angle you can see a large inclusion of sphalerite or petroleum(?) within. I did my best to capture as many of these amazing features as possible in the video but if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out!

We photographed the specimen while back lit. I count at least 20 smaller fluorite crystals spread across the rest of the specimen that are similarly translucent with faint purple zoning. Scattered across the specimen you will find over 15 rhodo crystals nestled within beautiful quartz points shooting every direction. The cluster of 4 rhodos on the right side measures around 6cm x 2cm as a group. The 2 rhodos on the upper section each measure around 2cm on edge. Most of the other rhodo crystals measure around 1cm on edge. Finding a specimen like this on the current market is not easy as many of these are now tucked away in personal collections - I'm happy to be able to offer this one at a very reasonable figure - Contact me with any questions.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0528/8499/6293/files/Rhodochrosite-LARGE_PLATE-WEB_83a96491-7eca-40a1-80ff-ef00a3097949.jpg?v=1756854663
amethyst-quartz-jacksons-crossroads
Amethyst Quartz (Jackson's Crossroads)

AMETHYST QUARTZ
Jackson's Crossroads Mine
Wilkes County
Georgia

4.3 x 3.5 x 2 Inches
11 x 9 x 5 Centimeters
Dug by Rick Kennedy 2023
Cabinet

A lovely example of amethyst quartz from the famed Jackson's Crossroads Mine - Four clusters of amethyst are surrounded by quartz points - This is a great example!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0528/8499/6293/files/AmethystQuartz-JacksonsCrossroads-WEB-3.jpg?v=1769028305
copper-michigan-copy
Copper (Michigan)

COPPER
Calumet Mine
Calumet
Michigan

4.3 x 6 x 3.5 Inches
11 x 15 x 9 Centimeters
Large Cabinet

This is a copper cast specimen - The copper was within a chunk of quartz and other host rocks that was chemically "burned" away leaving the copper.
