An interesting specimen of classic phantom fluorite crystals from Yindu Mine on a matrix of quartz crystals with globs of calcite perched throughout. Multiple twinned fluorite crystals with excellent etching and clarity are offset by a single fluorite crystal with great inclusions. The fluorite crystals exhibit bluish-green zoning with a dense purple phantom core. There is a strong contrast of colors and form between the fluorite and the surrounding minerals that makes this specimen uniquely aesthetic.
When viewed under Shortwave UV the fluorite reacts very strongly, if you look closely you can see the phantoms/zoning patterns!

The word Fluorite derived from the Latin "fluo" - to flow, because the mineral is used as a flux in iron smelting.

Fluorites from certain localities exhibit a very strong fluorescence, due to impurities in the crystal. In 1852 the phenomenon of fluorescence was named after fluorite. It also gave the name to its constitutive element fluorine.

Fluorite has a wide range of colors, which depends on impurities, exposure to radiation, and the size of the color centers. Color distribution is often zonal or spotty.

Fluorite is found as a common gangue mineral in hydrothermal veins, especially those containing lead and zinc minerals. It is also found in some greisens, granites, pegmatites and high-temperature veins, and as a component of some marbles and other metamorphic rocks.
